ABOUT MY PRACTICE
Learn to Embody Your Healing
by Looking Deeper.
MEET KELSEY WEISSBURG, LCSW
Psychotherapist in Chicago, IL.
Hi, I’m Kelsey. I am deeply passionate about the work I do and am a life-long learner of all things psychology and therapy. It’s a privilege to create space for and witness the healing of so many kind-hearted people. I specialize in helping people who long for confidence and inner peace but feel like anxiety or grief keep getting in the way.
MY CLIENTS
Who I Work With.
My clients are self-reflective and curious individuals. They put so much thought into how they show up in relationships that they sometimes forget to treat themselves with the same love and care they offer others. As someone who identifies as an empath, I know how hard it can be to balance caring for others while prioritizing your own well-being.
I’ve found that when I slow down and listen to my body, the answers are usually already there. We all just need help uncovering those answers. This is where I can help you.
Together, we will illuminate your inner wisdom. You can expect a space for deep reflection, where you can understand yourself and your relationships more fully.
TRAUMA & SOMATIC WORK
Healing Begins When
We Listen to the Whole Self.
Many of my clients come to me with complex trauma. I’m here to walk alongside you through your healing journey. It’s rarely a straight or easy path, but I’ve supported many people as they heal younger parts of themselves and learn to offer themselves the grace and understanding they’ve long deserved.
Understanding our emotions is important, but it’s not always enough. Many people have insight into their anxiety or stress, yet still feel it living in their bodies. By integrating the body and mindfulness into our work, I can help you access deeper relief. It’s possible to find peace beyond understanding.
MY APPROACH
How We Work Together.
I believe that multiple things can be true at once. I take both therapy and life seriously, and I also make room for laughter, play, and levity. A big part of my therapeutic practice is mindfulness — which includes allowing yourself to lean into your sense of play and letting your inner child show up. There is so much healing in play.
My approach in therapy is thoughtful, direct, and collaborative. I don’t shy away from gently challenging my clients. My goal is to empower you to explore and give voice to your whole self, without judgment getting in the way.
MY VALUES
My Work Is Grounded In A Set Of Values
That Shape Every Therapeutic Relationship I Build.
These principles guide how I show up, how I listen, and how I honor your pace and your lived experience. Here are the values I return to again and again:
𖦹 Healing cannot be rushed
𖦹 Multiple truths can exist at once
𖦹 There is no single right way to heal
𖦹 You are the expert on yourself
𖦹 Our bodies hold deep wisdom
𖦹 Mind, body, and spirit are interconnected
𖦹 Addressing power dynamics is key to honest work
𖦹 I honor a Health at Every Size™ approach
These values help create a space where you can explore with honesty and curiosity, without pressure or expectation.
POWER DYNAMICS IN THERAPY
I am passionate about breaking down systems of power and oppression both inside and outside the therapeutic relationship. We must name our shared realities while also appreciating how our unique experiences and identities shape our lives.
For example, my whiteness and my role as the therapist place me in a position of power. I prioritize redistributing and stewarding that power to create a space of growth and possibility.
Power dynamics are something I like to discuss at the beginning of therapy and throughout our work. Naming what power we each hold can help create space for honest reflection and deeper connection.
A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME
The Story Behind My Work.
I was born in Evanston, IL but grew up in North Carolina. After a few years living in Brussels, Belgium during high school, I attended the University of Maryland, where I received my bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Returning to Chicago for my Master’s in Social Work at the University of Chicago felt full circle. It’s safe to say Chicago winters don’t scare me, and I’ll be here for a while.
I love long walks on the lakefront, eating soup dumplings in Chinatown, and feeling at home in community — whether that’s with family, friends, or at a concert or comedy show with strangers. As much as I love a beautiful day outside, I’m also all about staying in to watch TV, practice yoga, and enjoy my favorite snacks.
